REVIEW: AND THEN THE RODEO BURNED DOWN at King’s Head Theatre 17 Jan – 11 Feb

Chris Lilly • Jan 20, 2023

‘entertainment that is immaculately played and effortlessly charming’ ★★★★

Two rodeo clowns tumble across the stage, pick up horse shit, line-dance, perform slow-motion (and sometimes quite fast-motion) old Vaudeville routines, and engage in existential musings and meta-theatrical contemplations. And it’s all very funny, and very engaging.

Chloe Rice and Natasha Roland have devised an hour-long entertainment that is immaculately played and effortlessly charming, and once or twice makes you think about things. They do slapstick like ballet dancers, they line-dance beautifully, and they mine the erotic possibilities of fixing a boo-boo with a kiss.

The King’s Head is festooned with great notices for this show, and they are all richly deserved. Four stars, don’t miss it.
